Hi I’m talking about dung beetles and the the reason they call them Dung beetles is because they love dung. Now they are 300,000 different types of beetles in the world. Dung beetles are a introduced species and got imported to get rid of all the cow poo. Did you know that there are cows poo 12,000,000 times in one hour and that’s a lot of poo. A man from Africacame to australia to sell dung beetles to Ausy farmers to help with the poo over load. Also dung beetles keep away blow flies that really helps Ausy farmers. I guest Dung beetles are great for farmers and those little guys really love there dung.

Jack – very interesting post Mate. We actially have them in our yard! They eat Bronson’s poo! They are particularly useful apparently for sheep farmers tht have problems with fly-strike which is really bad for sheep. I are really enjoying your posts they are very informative. Dadxx

Hi, I’m Mitchell from Te Awamutu Intermediate, New Zealand.
This is a really interesting post and had never heard anything about these “dung beetles” before.
I think they could be really helpful in New Zealand aswell with all of the sheep and cows here.
Thanks,
Mitchell

Hey Jack,
I’m Milly also from Te Awamutu Intermediate, New Zealand.
That is interesting! I have heard of them and that they do eat the so called ‘dung’ but I didn’t know how many species of beetles there were. That is a big number for something we don’t really notice that much.
It is great to see your Dad commenting on your blog! I think that it is important to get parents involved with learning especially if its to do with technology which I mights add is practically our gerations specialty and we can teach the older generations so much about it. (Although we can’t if they already know lots about technology! But I’m talking about parents who don’t know much.) Is your Dad into Technology?
Anyway please comment back,
Milly
